How to Help Students With ‘LA Students Most In Need’ Fundraiser

iHeartRadio Los Angeles is joining the LA Chargers and CBS and KCAL to help LAUSD students and their families who are struggling during this unprecedented crisis. KCAL9’s Sharon Tay Zoomed into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, April 2, and shared how you can help local LA students and families get the tools they need to learn from home amid the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.

“We’ve all teamed up to create this fundraiser to benefit students of LAUSD — it’s called ‘LA Students Most In Need,’” Sharon shared on-air, adding “all the money that’s being raised is going to help these kids by giving them supplies, giving them notebooks, supplying them with internet connections” and more so they can successfully take classes online.

“This is unprecedented,” Sharon stressed. “Going home and learning from home is a whole different ball game. They don’t have the internet connections; they don’t have the computers or notebooks that they need so we're trying to come together.”

LAUSD has supplied students with tools as well, using emergency spending to buy $10 million worth of additional Chromebook-like devices to ensure every student could take one home, but many homes are still without access, which is why they need our help. Money donated will also help with meals.

Currently, LAUSD is feeding nearly 500k people a day at “Grab and Go” locations across LA County. The meals feed not only students, but their families and the 8 emergency homeless shelters that popped up to deal with the crisis.
