Billie Eilish nearly scrapped one of her biggest songs from her latest album.

The Grammy winner, 23, sat down with WSJ. Magazine for a new cover story interview where she revealed that her hit song "Birds of a Feather" was almost cut from her 2024 album Hit Me Hard and Soft, even after working on it with her brother and collaborator FINNEAS for nearly a year, per People.

"Multiple times I was like, 'We should cut this,'" she recalled, adding, "Even when I played the whole album for the label, I was like, 'Guys, this one is kind of stupid.'"

The doubt stuck around by the time she shared the album with her record label, admitting, "Even when I played the whole album for the label, I was like, 'Guys, this one is kind of stupid.'"

"Birds of a Feather" was also a departure from the "sad" songs she made early on in her career, as it is a track about loving someone until you die. That last point was an intentional choice as Eilish explained she wanted to add "something dark" in the track so it wasn't all "rainbows and smiles."

It was a good thing she kept the track because it became a popular soundtrack for many in the summer of '24, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, being certified five-times platinum by the RIAA, and earning her three Grammy nominations including song and record of the year.

You can listen to "Birds of a Feather" on iHeartRadio.
