Popular London restaurant Ivy Chelsea Garden is under fire after pop singer-songwriter Raye has accused the restaurant of racism.
The "Cigarette" singer shared a video on Instagram of the door staff refusing entry to her black friend, but granting entry to her white friend. The pair were both wearing shorts and trainers.
Following online backlash, the restaurant appears to have amended its website and deleted the section posted by Raye.
A spokesperson for the Ivy Chelsea Garden said, “There was a situation [on Monday] during which a gentleman was refused entry because he was wearing non smart casual clothing. Unfortunately, a mistake had been made and another member of his party had earlier been allowed in wearing similar clothing." The same statement was posted to its Instagram page.
"I've done everything in my power to bring light to a very traumatic example of racism I experienced first hand... Half of the people in that restaurant were wearing casual clothing, I have 4 witnesses that can testify 1st hand," Raye said yesterday in her Instagram story. She continued, "I feel let down and I feel like I have let myself down because I do not have a big enough platform to really get this message out there or enough money to sue."
