Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry compared Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter to Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani while discussing his potential as a two-way player ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
"It's a little bit like Ohtani, where when he's playing one side, he's an outstanding player," Berry said during his pre-draft news conference on Thursday (April 17) via ESPN. "If he's a pitcher, he's a hitter, he's an outstanding player. You obviously get a unicorn if you use him both ways."
Hunter, 21, who is currently rated as the No. 2 prospect by Scouts Inc. one week away from the first-round of the 2025 NFL Draft, won college football's top individual award as a standout wide receiver and cornerback, having played both positions during the entirety of his collegiate career at Colorado (2023-24) and Jackson State (2022). Ohtani, 30, a three-time MVP, has excelled as one of Major League Baseball's best starting pitchers and everyday hitters, though not pitching during his first season with the Dodgers in 2024 as he was rehabbing from a second major elbow surgery.
Berry said the Browns, who currently hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, primarily view Hunter as a wide receiver, though they would consider having him also sub in at a defensive back position on select plays. The general manager also refused to show his hand, claiming Cleveland was open to all options at the No. 2 pick.
"We'll use the whole shot clock," Berry said via ESPN.
